The Saudi Patient Safety Council, in collaboration with leading healthcare company Eli Lilly, has launched an awareness website aimed at educating diabetics on how to deal with insulin and cope with diabetes.
This comes as part of the cooperation between the public and private sectors to serve the health sector and patients. Such cooperation is one of the main objectives of the Kingdom's 2030 Vision.
Stressing the role of private sector companies, Dr. AbduleIlah Al-Hawsawi, Director General of the Saudi Patient Safety Center, said “The Saudi Center for Patient Safety aims to spread the principle of safety in all areas and allow private sector companies to submit their ideas that reflect positively on the community, especially in areas that are part of patients’ lives on a daily basis. The cooperation with Lilly is a model in digital publishing through a website that includes advice and guidance for diabetics with high quality scientific videos offering tight scientific content and tested by drug safety professionals.”
“At Lilly Saudi Arabia we are fully focused on delivering improved outcomes for patients through easy interactions that enable people to feel genuinely cared for. We can only achieve this by working as one team with key stakeholders in the healthcare system throughout the Kingdom. The collaboration with the Saudi Center for Patient Safety is therefore of the utmost importance to us, and we are very proud to be able to partner with such a highly respected organization. Since launching the first commercially manufactured insulin in 1923, Lilly has been committed to make life better for patients with diabetes and reach people all around the world with broad access to a safe and reliable supply of life changing medicines.” said Dimitri Livadas, Managing Director of Eli Lilly Saudi Arabia Limited.
The Saudi Patient Safety Center has implemented several agreements with the public and private sectors to spread knowledge and culture of patient safety, which is one of the Center’s main objectives, through intensifying efforts towards enabling patients to know their rights and spreading the culture of drug safety. Promoting the concept of drug safety and enabling patients and their families are among the most important points mentioned in the Jeddah Declaration on Patient Safety launched at the Fourth Global Ministerial Summit on Patient Safety.
